On-screen evaluation or online evaluation was one of the most interesting topics of the discussion that educators were curious about. On-screen evaluation is a method that could make the evaluation of examinations easy and will be adopted widely in the near future.
This blog talks about the digital or on-screen evaluation system in detail.
History of Digital Evaluation :
Digital Evaluation was first tested by the University of Cambridge for the Local Examinations Syndicate in the year 1999. It became a popular best practice in 2004. In India, the system was first adopted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Currently, the on-screen evaluation is widely adopted by various educational institutions and will be very popular in the coming years.
What is the on-screen marking system in higher education?
Online evaluation system for examiners:
Digital or on-screen evaluation is a method in which the higher education examiner can digitally evaluate the scanned copy of manual examinations or the online responses on their computers. The examiner can digitally assess and mark the answers on their computers or any other device. The conventional system of evaluation is not altered here. The difference is that the manual evaluation of answer scripts is replaced with digital evaluation.
The students write exams in papers or electronic tabs which will be scanned and uploaded to any digital storage. This will be assigned to the authorized examiners by the examination controller. They can assess it from anywhere on their systems. The evaluated scripts can further be evaluated through multiple dashboards by the senior examiners.
Benefits of online assessment system:
- Convenience and ease: The first advantage of on-screen evaluation is that examiners can access the answer scripts from anywhere on their devices. The complex processes of managing the evaluation become easy due to effective automation.
- Quick result publication: It helps educators to publish the exam results quickly by enabling the examiners to evaluate the answer scripts from anywhere at any pace.
- Scalability: With an on-screen marking system, institutions can cut down overheads such as transportation costs, and eliminate space for storage.
- Security: Digital evaluation of answer sheets offers greater security as the answer scripts and the details are stored digitally. Also, examiners accessed by the exam controllers only can get hands-on answer scripts. It also eliminates the risk of the scripts being mutilated, damaged, or missed during transporting.
- Efficiency and Accuracy: It eliminates the chance of administrative errors such as uncalculated answers, incorrect marking, and false awarding marks. learn more
